Slagging Off Tourists

Anonymous review from Amazon.co.uk 11th October 2000

One of the most original and enjoyable bands from Wales. The true great bands from this nation are hardly recognised which is a great shame because this is one of those bands that clearly hasn't got the recognition that they have truely earned. This E.P. is just a small example of how great the band are. Combining catchy tunes, uplifting choruses and hypnotic beats this along with other Melys releases will leave you more than satisfied.

NME 4TH December 1999

Skip the first track, the one where these flinty Welsh art-popsters were still figuring out how their battered drum machine worked. But by the time they get to third track 'Mae'n Amser I Newid' they're cooking with gas because it's a sparkly, shimmery piece of lo-fi dream-pop wonderment. And 'Porn Myself' is just as good; a sugar-rush lament about bad hair days and the thin line between artistic compromise and prostitution. Here, Melys sound like vintage new wavers Penetration, which is a very fine thing indeed.
